Some real acting going on but the Academy usually snubs our community when it comes to comedy (that horrible Birdcage film is the exception). I think any of the three male leads could’ve been nominated for this one. Its a very quiet and dignified film- yet very watchable. The casting and acting in that one is superb. quoter362 Betty Buckley’s one scene in Another Woman has haunted me since I first saw it. She has absolutely zero warmth or charm on stage, yet, on film, I think she’s absolutely superb.
What’s a really good movie no one really talks about?
Good to know, I won’t waste my time. I thought it was some underrated suspense movie. And I agree he holds the movie together and that scene is crucial.
Why did Frank’s children hate Barbara? The children are fine with that as she is their Mother. She also spent time in the South of France while Frank was alive. I met Barbara Sinatra several times. She was a good woman in many respects for her charity work for abused children.

quoter288 which may not even have been Christopher Ashley’s invention either quoteAn ancient gay in a nursing home listening to Vic Damone singing The Party’s Over. quoteI eventually through myself out of a window at Bullock’s department store. I remember one night we saw there were a few people in the balcony, and we jumped up and down in hushed celebration that people were coming back after intermission!
Great cast and one of Paul Mazursky’s best films. Apropos of nothing, two of the films mentioned feature performances that won best actress at Cannes—Shelley Duvall in “3 Women” and Kirsten Dunst in “Melancholia.” I love the two Sean Penn-directed films with Jack Nicholson and Robin Wright. I think it’s one of those movies that will only grow in reputation and stature as time goes on.
But I don’t think they needed to tamper with the original group of characters from the book/movie. All those glossed over tributes and films and books and Reprise records kept you still living off daddy when you were 80 years old! I really enjoy reading about these people and this time, i am 53 and i have been researching barbara , she has a son.

Supporting parts in bad comedy films came and a went. quoteHas the film “Up the Down Staircase” gone MIA? But has not done a long run since Wicked or a memorable role in film/televsion. quoteJudy Holliday in the role had charm mixed with demure and a bit of lack of self confidence.
I watched that film on HBO all the time as a kid. His performance in that was one of the all-time greats. quote Speaking of which, Christine Lahti should have been nominated as well.
How do rich celebrities end up with such awful plastic surgery?
Does meghan’s behavior get worse later on in the book, r382? Well, no one is forcing you to buy the book or read these threads, R355. The story of a modern, real life Marquise de Merteuil.
IMAGES fits this thread, too, since its star, Susannah York, won the Best Actress Award at Cannes that year, but was overlooked by the Academy. It has to be my favorite Altman film. It might also have been a turnoff that he hijacks the story away from the newsworthy victim, Dorothy Stratten. I used to think Spacek was a great actress with a limited range until I saw a movie she did called Trading Mom. Eileen Heckart won Supporting, and she was super, her performance seems even stronger now.
Barbara Sinatra is dead to me.
And the fact that Mr. Laughton, undertaking his first film directorial job, has not brought forth a wholly shattering picture is easy to understand. R295 his movie was thought of as weird when it came out. Saw it for the first time on Criterion.
quoteOn the London cast recording of MY FAIR LADY, she talk sings a lot of “Show Me,” and unfortunately it sounds awful quoteShe talk-sings a lot in that movie / soundtrack. quoteJulie Andrews seems effortless in the film, but Maria is not an easy part. quote Maria, in The Sound of Music, as performed by Mary Martin, has the widest range of any character in a musical… astounding and quite punishing. quote I can see validity in the credit if the person doing the conceiving wasn’t also one of the book writers, but if they are then it just feels redundant.
They all were excellent in their supporting roles! quoteR106 Lily Taylor for Say Anything, Dogfight, Girls Town, and/or I Shot Andy Warhol. He’s incredibly hot throughout this film. quote The fact Kirsten Dunst didn’t even get a nom for Melancholia is a fucking travesty.
- Ovendon is indeed wonderful, but the rest the cast is dreadful.
- Starring Tom Hanks, Eva Marie Saint and Jackie Gleason in his final film.
- It might have helped given her career a needed boost at the time.
- When I saw the listing, I was afraid it was going to be the Depp/Bonham-Carter version, but apparently it’s the 1982 Hearn/Lansbury filmed stage performance.
- The sad thing is, the Dream Season storylines were all pretty good…except for the silly Dynasty rip-off plot with Angelica.
But I also think it’s some of the best performances from Melanie Griffith & Jeff Daniels as well. Maybe people do talk about it, but so many that I mention it to haven’t seen it. But a really good story. Quote DICK is a great movie. R343, that’s not a movie. Most people prefer pap like “Heartstopper”.
- What’s a good movie that should have one more awards and blew you away?
- They also killed off so many good characters but never the annoying Eugene,
- That movie made me feel like I was high.
- The 80s episodes are the ones to watch if you’re seeing the show for the first time on YouTube.
- All of this info comes from various biographies of Frank’s life.

Passions did the gay storyline better I chicken road 2 hated the Noah and Luke storyline I would have loved Frank just as much if he had been a dish washer.

R81, what’s beyond belief is you say that every time. I don’t understand why they don’t just go live a quiet life. I understand if he could not mention her role in his release, but he could have mentioned that Mandela was the only contemporary of QEII who called her “Elizabeth” in conversation. But I didn’t want to hear anything that any of those people said.
All the informaton is listed on her wiki pedia page and then TMZ had a news article about here working at book soup after her meth overdose R155 Where is the quotes from your using about Fawn Hall? I even went down to verify and a nice woman told me there that Fawn quit to work on her book about her late husband Was working down the street, like a few feet from my house at book soup and that she had over dosed on meth. Additionally, the bio includes quoted comments from wife #2 (Ava Gardner) who was deceased when the bio was made.
What fun it would be to watch that version of the film! I’d never considered any other actress in Mia’s role, but OMG – you’re absolutely right about Sandy Dennis. JoBeth was really great in Desert Bloom, which I mentioned earlier in this thread. They worked steadily after ET and Poltergeist but they should have continued to get A-list roles and both should have Oscars by now. The last time I saw her in something big was that remake of Sybil. She’s always the best thing in all of those movies she’s in, but she’s never given much to do.
An excellent movie starring Robert Deniro. In what universe is National Treasure a good movie and not just a bland ripoff of Raiders of the Lost Ark? National Treasure had really great history lessons and a fascinating treasure hunt.

So the London recording is inferior in terms of the quality of both the performances and the sound. Though I’m sure he would love to interview Betty Lynn. It has uneven technical production and the content sometimes meanders, but it is still something I look forward to each week.
Very few people saw it. quoteClouds of Sils Maria That movie made me feel like I was high. quoteThe King of Hearts quoteHarold and Maude
